For the Third Time, U.S. House Votes to End War with Iran

Al-Taj News – The U.S. House of Representatives voted for the third time in favor of ending the war with Iran after passing a resolution under the War Powers Act that would restrict President Donald Trump’s ability to continue military action without congressional approval.

The vote, held late Tuesday evening, was 220 to 204, a result similar to previous attempts during the summer, with a slightly larger number of Republicans joining all Democrats in voting to end the conflict.

None of these resolutions has reached the president’s desk, amid expectations that Trump would use his “veto” power against the resolution.

Democratic Representative Seth Moulton of Massachusetts, who served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Iraq War and pushed for the resolution, said: “Do you remember when Donald Trump said this war would last only a few weeks?”

Moulton said the time had come for Congress to “actually ask the tough questions, as the Constitution directs us to, rather than submit to another administration seeking to wage wars.”

On the other hand, Republican Representative Brian Mast of Florida, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, questioned what military resources Democrats wanted to withdraw from the region, noting that Iran still poses a threat.

Mast said Trump opposes “endless wars, and that’s what he is putting an end to,” referring to decades of hostilities with Iran.
